Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Helpline, a registered charity, is a free and confidential telephone advice service for anyone affected by domestic violence, domestic abuse or coercive control. Our volunteer call takers listen non-judgementally to what callers tell us and can then pass on phone numbers for organisations best able to help a particular need. Thus each caller receives a personalised service applicable to their individual situation. We also receive calls from friends and family members and professionals who may have victims with them.
Volunteers undertake two days' training initially. Thereafter they meet regularly for additional training and learning, to share experiences and to meet other volunteers.
We ask volunteers to offer two to three hours a week on the Helpline, working from home.
Volunteering on the Helpline is not for everyone and we have other more general volunteering opportunities.
