Objectives of the Organisation
Run by local parents, the Harpenden & District NCT Branch is a local parent support network. We offer a range of support services for parents and are most known for our antenatal courses, but the branch also runs postnatal support groups to help parents to adjust to their new roles.
Other parents can be a great support, especially for those without nearby family. We provide many opportunities to meet other parents, including the bi-weekly Bumps & Babies sessions, social events such as the Winter Playgroup, Cheeky Monkey Tea Party and Christmas Party. We also have an active Toddler Network E-group and a Facebook page where individuals can ask questions and keep in touch with local parents and we also have a page for Dads.
For those who are new to parenthood, new to the area, or expecting a baby then they can contact our Newcomer Coordinator. There are monthly newcomer get-togethers held in someone's home which are a friendly and informal opportunity to talk to others in a similar situation. At our bi-annual Nearly New Sales, parents can pick up good quality baby clothes and equipment, or sell on items that their little one has grown out of. We also have a quarterly local newsletter, called Smalltalk, which is distributed to all our members, as well as an annual comprehensive guide to activities etc in our local area, called The Little Person's Guide to Harpenden & District.
Volunteers, parents and expectant parents run our branch. You do not need to take on huge tasks, just commit whatever time or previous experience and skills you can. It is a great way to learn new skills, enhance your CV, make new friends and represent the NCT.
We currently have several fantastic volunteering opportunities available with the Harpenden & District NCT, specifically:
Nearly New Sale Coordinator
Parent Services Administrator Link
Small Talk Coordinator
Small Talk Layout Editor
Small Talk Distributor
Bumps and Babes Volunteers
Smaller roles within the Events, Nearly New Sale and Smalltalk teams
